The project

Radio H2O was an online community radio station from Nazaré, started by a group of friends. It originally broadcast after school hours with varied programming, and later became 100% dedicated to Carnaval da Nazaré, broadcasting only during December, January and February. I was responsible for:

  • The radio’s website and Android app (Play Store)
  • Graphics and assets for live streaming (After Effects, Premiere, OBS)
  • Technical setup of the broadcast (CentovaCast) and streaming to YouTube

Impact

While it was running, it was the only place playing Carnaval marches 24 hours a day. In 2019, alongside the audio broadcast, we added live streams on YouTube and Facebook — an innovative move at the time.

In 2021, the year of COVID, it became Carnaval da Nazaré’s only digital presence: besides conversations with groups and people involved in the Carnaval, we held online “bailes” (dances) to preserve the tradition and culture, and give the whole population of Nazaré some entertainment and Carnaval content, since there were no in-person events that year.

That year was the radio’s last, along with the Blog Carnaval da Nazaré. The lack of support and of a dedicated space to broadcast from were some of the reasons.
