The problem
I play for Masters Cister, a group of former handball players who get together to keep the sport in their lives, training weekly in Alcobaça and taking part in tournaments and friendly games around the Centro region of Portugal.
The team only had a presence on social media, with no official site of its own — which made it harder for people to find us, whether they were interested in playing or potential sponsors deciding whether to support the team. Seeing the opportunity to help with what I do, I offered to build this site.
The solution
The Masters Cister site is informational: it explains who we are, when and where we train, showcases our sponsors (organized by tier) and has a photo gallery of trainings, tournaments and get-togethers.
So the team can keep the site up to date without depending on me, there’s a simple admin panel, protected by Cloudflare Access (no passwords), where sponsors and photo albums can be managed.
Stack and decisions
Being a simple, non-profit site, there wasn’t much reason to pick one technology over another — the goal was to keep things simple and free to run. I used Astro with Cloudflare Workers, the same combination I already know from my personal site, with D1 for sponsor and album data and R2 for photo storage.
